Ryan is an up and coming versatile Bass Trombonist and Educator currently studying at The University of Iowa, pursuing a B.A. in Music Education and a B.M. in Trombone Performance. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, he moved to Iowa as a child and has been living in Iowa City since. At the University of Iowa, Ryan has performed in the Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, Johnson County Landmark, Hawkeye Marching Band, and Trombone Choir. Ryan has conducted with the New Horizons Band and is the Director of the Silver Swing Jazz Band.
Outside of the University, Ryan is a founding member of the Clinton Street Trombone Quartet, the modern jazz quintet The Laird Quintet, performs with the Iowa Brass Band, College Street Brass Band, and teaches private lessons. Ryan was the 2023-2024 Vice President of the University of Iowa Trombone Association. Last summer, he participated in the Atlantic Brass Quintet seminar and advanced to the final round of the Royal Australian Navy Band Bass Trombone Audition. This semester, Ryan will begin his student teaching placement in the Clear Creek Amana School District.
